ceramisite sand(ceramic foundry sand) is a kind of high quality refractory for casting, made with quality alumina through process as calcination, electric melting, granulation and screening. It serves as a very good pre-coated molding sand, an ideal substitute for zircon sand or chrome sand. Ceramite firstly appeared in the 80s of last century, in ball-shaped granules made by calcination. In the 1990s it was applied to casting industry instead of zircon sand in USA and then Japan.
